YELLOW BOX JUNCTION
Website and social video, 2017
Vehicles stopping or queuing across an intersection can cause gridlock on the road network, not to mention the frustration caused to other drivers who are unnecessarily blocked and cannot move through an intersection. A yellow box is painted on the road to show the extent of an intersection and indicate an area where drivers should not stop.
You may only enter a yellow box intersection when your exit is clear and there is enough space on the other side of the intersection for your vehicle to clear the box completely without stopping. In early 2016, two variations of yellow box junctions, using Singapore and UK design markings, were implemented at four trial locations in Western Australia.
